To,

P C George, MLA, Poonjar, Kerala

UPDATE: 04 Feb 2019

We have a plan -- we are going local with our campaign calling out Poonjar, Kerala MLA PC George for his sexist remarks.

We are going to circulate our graphics highlighting his misogynistic statements as flyers in local Malayali newspapers.

Running an ad for a day will cost us anything between Rs 5K to 8K.
If 20 of you donate Rs 400 each, we will be able to reach out to over 75,000 people in Kottayam district.

if we don’t call him out, PC George’s sexist remarks will allow rape culture to thrive, doing more damage than we can see.

Let’s fight sexism together.

UPDATE: 19 Dec 2019

Poonjar, Kerala MLA PC George was recently booed down by the audience at a public meeting.

This is the same public representative who has time and again made sexist, misogynistic public statements about women and trans persons.

Our social media ad campaign started a conversation on the need for PC George to apologise for his irresponsible behaviour. We want to continue building pressure to hold him accountable -- and we need your help.

We want to go local with our campaign -- by publishing our graphics as inserts in locally circulated newspapers, broadcasting our campaign message on local radio channels, and tapping into  Malayali social media networks. We need to raise Rs. 5,000 -- any contribution you can make will go a long way.

If we let this public representative go unchecked today, we will compromise on the quality of our politicians that we deserve.

The survivor nun, who PC George called a prostitute for accusing a bishop of rape, continues to face threats and rejection from her own institution. We cannot allow an elected representative to get away with irresponsible and hurtful statements about rape -- do pitch-in whatever you can.

UPDATE: 21 November 2018

We are all set to show the reality of MLA PC George to the people of his constituency. In recent times, his obnoxious, sexist statements have deeply disturbed us. We deserve better from our elected officials

Is there any doubt, anyway, as to the fact that she is a prostitute? Twelve times it was a pleasure.

- On the Kerala nun alleged rape case (Sept’18)

Aren’t you a man? Why are you here? Why are you dressed up? I can see your moustache.

- To a transgender employee in the Kerala Legislative Assembly (June’18)

The people of his constituency need to know what their representative has been upto. He has been able to get away with these hurtful statements because he feels secure in the support from his constituency. That’s why, we’ve decided to use his exact statements and place social media advertisements targeted at his constituency Poonjar, Kerala.

These graphics, in both Malayalam and English, will be pushed out on Facebook this week itself. But, we need your help to reach a larger audience in MLA PC George’s constituency. If 20 members like you could contribute Rs. 200 each, we would be able to reach approximately 1 lakh people with an ad budget of Rs. 4,000.

It’s frustrating that a government leader like MLA PC George continues to get away with making horrible statements about women and transgender folk. Here’s our chance to convert our anger into a constructive resistance strategy.

We can’t do this without your help. Every rupee counts. Well-targeted social media ad campaigns can have amazing reach and impact on decision makers. That’s precisely why we want to target the very people who voted for him so that they can make better choices next time around. MLA PC George will feel the pressure from his constituency members.

We already have members making personal phone calls to PC George to lodge their complaints against his sexist statements. We need to up our game, so that he realises the people of Kerala deserve responsible and sensitive leadership. Do support our online ad campaign.

UPDATE: 17 September 2018

About a week ago, Kerala MLA called a rape-survivor, a prostitute. He went on to say that the nun who alleged rape against the Jalandhar-based bishop “enjoyed it 12 times and complained the 13th time.

Over 1000 Indian citizens came together to tell him that his comments were distasteful and irresponsible. Consequently, he made a public statement: “Other than retracting the word prostitute, I stand by everything else I have said on the topic. I stand by it a 100%.” This is not an apology!

This is not the first time PC George has made derogatory statements about women who have come forward to file complaints about sexual assault and harassment. He must retract his entire statement about the nun rape-survivor and issue a formal and unconditional apology immediately.

Reaching a new low, PC George an MLA from Kerala called the nun who had alleged rape by a Jalandhar-based bishop, a prostitute.

MLA PC George must issue a complete and formal apology for his irresponsible statement.

Last week, many of us signed the petition to MLA Ram Kadam, and we got him to apologise publicly!

We can do it again, if we come together to show PC George, that we expect better from our government officials. Such statements cannot be tolerated.

Do you think we should hold our elected officials accountable to their hurtful statements? If yes, then join me in asking MLA PC George to retract his statement.

Let’s tell him that the survivor is not alone.
