Tamil Nadu State Government

Chennai, Tamil Nadu

"These problems are being manufactured from some places, people are creating it.”

- Tamil Nadu Minister SP Velumani

“If there is water shortage in one place, the media friends blow it up as a big thing. I request you all to not blow it up and show as if the entire Tamil Nadu is reeling under water crisis.”

- Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswamy

Tamil Nadu is reeling under one of the worst water crises in the world. The state hasn’t seen rains in 190 days and its river bed and lakes are parched and cracking. And this is what two state ministers, in revered leadership positions, have to say about it.

Due to the water crisis, several multinational companies have asked their staff to work from home. Many hotels have no water and are predicted to close if the situation continues. 100 hostels in Chennai have already been shut. The situation is worsening in the state with frequent fights breaking out amongst citizens. Currently 4 reservoirs in Chennai hold only 0.23% of water. The Madras High Court severely reprimanded the State Government for not preparing for this scarcity.

At a critical time like this, high ranking ministers cannot afford to be in denial of the water scarcity. This shows incompetence and lack of concern for the citizens’ plight.

Join this campaign asking Municipal Administration and Rural Development Minister S P Velumani and Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy to retract their statements and focus on implementing urgent solutions to solve the water crisis in Tamil Nadu.
