#BengaluruRains #Bengalurufloods
Update: 20 October 2022
Just a month after the horrifying #BengaluruFloods, Bengaluru relives the deluge trauma. Post Wednesday (19th October) night's incessant rain, eastern, southern and central parts of the city were flooded again! BMRCL's (Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation) retaining wall collapsed in Sheshadripuram, leading to grave personal property damage.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow alert, indicating severe rain for the next few days. Visuals from low-lying areas showed flooded houses, sewage water flowing out of open manholes, damaged vehicles and people stranded on heavily waterlogged roads.
Bengaluru’s civic authorities need to take action and ensure that every rainfall does not leave Bengaluru in distress.
Update: 12 September 2022
As rainwater recedes from homes and streets, reptiles and soaring restoration bills await flood victims.
As Bangalore battles unprecedented downpour, the flooding crisis in major areas disrupted lives and hampered livelihood. Poor infrastructure, rapid urbanisation, lack of an efficient drainage system and relentless encroachment resulted in flooding of major parts of the city.
With waterlogged streets, commuters faced extreme difficulty while lives of citizens continue to remain at risk. The downpour caused severe waterlogging on Outer Ring Road and other parts of Bangalore, inundating basements of apartments and houses causing residents to be rescued on rafts.
Residents of affected areas were forced to move out of their homes and move into hotels charging exorbitant tariffs. While Bangalore is renowned as India's IT City, major companies at one point considered moving.
Owing to poor planning, the pristine ecology of Bangalore is diminishing while citizens face the wrath of it. With the city's water supply disrupted for two days, life came to a stand-still in myriad ways. Hence, we ask BDA and BBMP to step up and take action in order to avoid a future man-made situation.

Why is this important?
From a 'City of Lakes,' Bangalore has transgressed to an IT Hub. Albeit lacking the essential infrastructure to support the mounting population.
A 23 year old woman was electrocuted on her way back from work during the deluge. Akhila, an administrative employee of a school, the sole breadwinner of her family, passed away owing to Bengaluru floods.
We should *not* lose anymore of our fellow-citizens to civic problems.

BBMP makes an impact on the quality of every citizen's life. The elections grant power to the corporator of each ward thus making way for better citizen involvement in civic matters.
"In a refreshing sign, 86 per cent of Bengaluru’s first-time voters expressed their intention to cast their vote in the upcoming BBMP polls. Janaagraha’s City Politics survey showed these young voters are eager to exercise their franchise. While their main concern is tackling climate change, 88 per cent of these voters believe that good local governance and a strong BBMP are the keys to a better future for Bengaluru."
However, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, now has no corporators because elections have not been held.
Through Bengaluru floods, Nature demands to be nurtured. To avoid a future environmental crisis, the collective voice needs to be heard.

Thank you for signing the petition.
The more people are behind an issue - the more likely it is that the BBMP and BDA will pay attention. Each name that is added to a campaign takes it one step closer to succeeding.
Can you help spread the word about by sharing it with your friends and family?
Thanks for all that you do,
The Jhatkaa.org team.
