TW: Abuse, Assault

Sex Education in India is a taboo is still a taboo. This taboo is costing our women cases like boislockerroom.

While boislockerroom is one of the cases that shook us earlier this year, experts believe that
lack of appropriate sexual knowledge deprives young minds of healthy and safe sexual relationships.

If we want the young, impressionable minds to learn the values of good touch, bad touch, sexual health, choice, consent, and safety -- we need to ask the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MHRD) and Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) to implement Comprehessive Sex Education (CSE) in the education system of India.

While Sex Education has been on table for a while now and has been implemented as part of various Health and Wellness Programmes, Jhatkaa.org, along with good folks at Super School India, emphasises that it needs to emerge as a separate chapter that helps our students learn about sexual health at school level.

How many times has it been that the chapter teaching reproduction in our science books has been skipped by the teachers. There is a mental block to sex education and a dedicated currilum can beat it.

-- says Radhika Mittal, director and founder, Super School India (SSI)

Ask MHRD and MWCD to set up a sex education curriculum by signing this petition.

We have an important example in Netherlands that prioritises the sex education at an early age. The country stands with one of the lowest rates of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

Let’s push Indian government to come up with a Comprehensive Sex Education policy that involves the social sector NGOs advocating sexual health, parents, teachers and students. Do sign the petition.
