Demand an extension on the deadline to submit objections against cutting of 1034 trees
As many as 1034 trees will be axed for double-tracking of the suburban railway between Byapanahalli and Hosur.
The forest department issued a notice on March 30 stating that the railway infrastructure development company (K-RIDE) has applied to remove trees in the heelalige station near the electronic city. According to K-RIDE, tree removal is needed to set station yards and platform work at Heelalige station.
As per the Karnataka Preservation of Tree Act, objections and suggestions are invited from the citizens of Bengaluru around the same. The deadline for submission of the suggestions is April 10. However, given present circumstances, we are urging the Tree Authority to extend the deadline.
Here are some of the other reasons
The area in question is vast, and proper surveys cannot be done in less than 10 days
For the first time, a suburban railway project is being launched, and it is different from a regular road/Flyover/Underpass project. It needs some time to analyse and submit meaningful suggestions
We are amid the pandemic, and people are sceptical about getting out of their homes, which makes the assessment challenging in the current situation given the short deadline
The number of trees,1034, being axed are significant
Sign the petition seeking an extension in the deadline to analyse the project and submit suggestions/objections.
