Crime Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged the four accused of gang-raping and murdering the dalit woman in Hathras.

The development comes after three months of investigation and public outrage.

This is a good time to take a step ahead and ask like-minded people to send in the emails to Uttar Pradesh government demanding action against caste-based panchayats and negligence of police and district magistrate who allegedly threatened the family of the deceased.

Amplified voices and coordinated efforts can do wonders in bringing big changes in a country. Getting more citizens on board will simply mean more voices against the caste-based atrocities in our country.

The Hathras case is not an isolated case where authorities have tried to terrorise the complainants.

However, this is a rare case where this power-abuse is out in the public-eye and has mobilised forces to call this caste-stimulated atrocities out.

Let’s tap into the moment to take the first step towards getting rid of caste-based gender-violence -- Send direct emails to various decision makers in the case with demands amplyfying the justice that case deserves.

The Hathras incident where four Thakur caste men have been reported to have raped, strangled and murdered a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Chandpa in Uttar Pradesh (UP)’s Hathras district is a heinous and brutal case that has shaken the country to its core, and has highlighted the caste atrocities that Dalit people still face to this day.

What we see in the aftermath of the Hathras gang rape is the complicit nature of the police administration and the upper caste groups. In this respect, we want to bring to your attention the following:

1. The District Magistrate, Praveen Kumar Laxkar, has been reported to have physically assaulted the members of the victim’s family, and there are video evidences in public domain where he can be seen threatening and intimidating the family, asking them to change the statement.

2. Various upper caste groups have held numerous caste panchayats, primarily, the Rajputs and the Thakurs, to malign the Dalit victim, pushing out a call in support of the perpetrators while the state was under the was order of section 144, and the case was subjudiced.

3. Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar cited the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report saying, “It clearly says that samples did not contain sperm. It makes clear that there was no rape or gang rape.” This was an extremely callous statement given the fact that rape doesn’t necessitate ejaculation/semen, and forensic report stating that the same was not found in samples does not equate to conclusive proof of rape or gang rape not happening. This statement coming from a senior police officer at a very critical juncture w/r to the case has painted a detrimentally wrong notion around the case, giving birth to various conspiracy theories and victimisation of the family.

Hathras right now is the face of the country's patriarchal and casteist entitlement. Every regressive move by the police should be under the lens.

Of this, we demand:

1. Immediately file an FIR against the  District Magistrate, Praveen Kumar Laxkar and he should be booked under the Section 4 of the PoA Act  for negligence of public duty.

2.  An inquiry be initiated to investigate how these panchayats were allowed to take place despite the imposition of section 144 and the government should take cognisance. Every member who participated in such 'unlawful assembly' should be booked for engaging in rioting as stated in the Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1973

3. Disbanding the Caste Panchayats and a public order on Prohibition of such panchayats deeming them as unconstitutional.

4. Initiate an inquiry against the ADG, Prashant Kumar, for his statement amounting to negligence of duty, and order him to publicly acknowledge and rectify the unwarranted statement that he has made.
