Shri Ram Kadam,MLA

Ghatkopar West Vidhan Sabha constituency

UPDATE: 6 SEPTEMBER 2018

More than 500 of us came together within hours forcing MLA Ram Kadam to apologise for his promise to kidnap girls, and we all won!

The Ghatkopar MLA tweeted, “My statement has been politicised due to which my sisters and mothers across have been hurt. I apologise for what happened. I respect all women.”

Your voice made the nation hear that we will not tolerate misogyny. This is not just an apology, it is also a reminder to our elected representatives that the people of this country will call them out. It’s a fair notice that the world’s largest democracy will speak up for its women.

Thank you for taking a stand against rape culture.

If you propose to a girl, and she doesn’t agree to marry you, call me. We will speak to your parents and if they agree to the marriage, we will kidnap her for you.

These are the words of Ram Kadam, a Maharashtra MLA. Can you believe an elected representative has issued a promise to kidnap girls for marriage?

Apart from walking all over the idea of consent, this statement by the Ghatkopar BJP MLA reeks of misogyny and crime.

If this makes you as angry as it makes me then join me and ask MLA Kadam to immediately retract his statement and issue an apology.

If we do not stop him today, who knows he may well form a group that will go from house to house to kidnap our girls. This is our chance to put our voices together to tell BJP MLA Ram Kadam that these kinds of statements are not expected from an elected representative.

Statements like these normalise rape culture. We must let MLA Kadam know that he cannot get away with such criminal statements.
