Prestige Group is illegally constructing their ‘Prestige Smart City’ adjacent to the Sarjapura Doddakere Lake and destroying the habitat of the water body. 

In the guise of building a landmark township, they have violated the High Court’s orders for a 30 meter buffer-zone. Their project is within 10 meters of the lake with waste being dumped around it, thus putting the Doddakere in grave danger of surviving naturally. Prestige group has also blocked access to the lake for local villagers whose livelihood activities have come to a standstill due to the same. The Rajakaluves (feeder channels) surrounding the lake have been tampered with too because the developers are diverting the channels.

The lake, biodiversity and rights of the people are under threat!

Bangalore, which was popularly known as “The City of Lakes”, has seen over 10,000 lakes be destroyed like this in the recent decades. We refuse to lose Sarjapura Doddakere to the illegal activities of the Prestige group. Thus, we demand:

• Prestige, stop destruction of Sarjapura Lake with immediate effect and stop dumping waste around it.

• Comply with the High Court orders of a 30 meter buffer zone.

• Make the lake accessible and open to the public, especially local villagers, who depend on the lake and Rajakaluves for their livelihood. 

• Retain the Rajakaluves (feeder channels) in their original form. They should not be cemented, diverted or piped underground. Additionally, also comply with the buffer zone regulations for the Rajakaluves.
