Three Dalit girls left their house to get fodder for cattle and did not return home. Shortly afterwards, they were found lying unconscious in a field, tied with a dupatta.

Unnao has reported yet another case of caste-brutality. Two of them were declared dead, while one survivor struggles for her life in the Regency hospital at Kanpur. Government sources have said there are no plans to move the survivor to AIIMS.

Dalit groups have demanded that the survivor be shifted to AIIMS hospital in Delhi and that the families of the victims and the survivor be given protection. Jhatkaa.org stands with them and we want your support to ensure that the survivor is moved as soon as possible.

Hathras has not left us, nor has the custodial violence against Nodeep Kaur. Caste is very much a part of gender-based violence. Cases like these makeit is quite evident that Dalit womxn face violence both from the people around them as well as the justice system.

According to news reports, the UP police have not responded to the demand of moving the survivor to Delhi yet. The survivor is in a critical state. Therefore, it is crucial for us to act and put pressure now.

We know that in Hathras’s case the death of the victim was followed by threats to family and friends. It is important to act now so that the families of the deceased and the survivor get security and are not threatened by the police themselves.
